Project Samples

Gadrian comes with a suite of project samples. These are subsets of more complete projects and can act as a 'seed' for a new project. This starter suite of projects contains several methodology oriented business solutions. Several samples contain overview PowerPoint presentations that describe one or more of the concepts used in the project.

Gadrian 3.4 Project

To get you started, Gadrian comes with some targeted samples. Each of these useful methodologies and projects are described in more detail below.

First Project Sample

The First Project sample is used with the Gadrian tutorial that is launched via the Getting Started button on the Gadrian Home screen. Its purpose is to show the simple steps in doing basic Gadrian operations and navigating the product. The same sequences are available in the overall Help for Gadrian.

Basic Data Warehousing Methodology Sample

This methodology is based on the classic steps that identify performance indicators, measures or metrics, analyzes the data that is rolled into the indicators, identify the ETL requirements for the data and the building of the analytical cube. This methodology also provides some of the basics for the Enterprise Data Warehouse Environment (diagram provided by Michael G. Miller of MGM Solutions and Frank F. Kowalkowski of Knowledge Consultants, Inc.) by including an overall diagram and some PowerPoint presentations. These are connected as knowledge links into the first relationship of the flow model titled 'Method Overview.'

Knowledge Management Methodology Sample

The knowledge management methodology project is a subset of a parent knowledge management methodology. There are related methodologies for enterprise knowledge, desktop knowledge, external knowledge, e-commerce knowledge and discipline knowledge. The sample included with Gadrian is the general version based on enterprise level knowledge management efforts that are targeted for a specific problem area such as CRM, Help Desk, E-Commerce knowledge structures and others.

Process Improvement Sample

The Process Improvement project is an expanded version of First Project sample. This project adds the basic measures as attributes for process improvement to several of the models and connects to some knowledge links that support the improvement. The attributes used for the flow model are typical for any process improvement effort. This model can be used as a starter template for flows representing other process, more detailed versions or more general versions using the same kinds of attributes. All the models here are constructed from hypothetical data. Be aware that there are some humorous transport methods not to be taken seriously.

Zachman Architecture Methodology Sample

The Zachman Framework for Information Systems Architecture was developed by John Zachman in the 1980s and published in 1988 in the IBM Systems Journal as a means of organizing the artifacts for building systems. The concept has its origins in the way artifacts are successfully managed for constructing complicated things like large buildings or airplanes. It was further extended to include concepts of building any enterprise structure, even organizations. The Zachman Architecture sample included with Gadrian is a general framework use approach.

Software Development Sample

This project sample shows a transition from requirements gathering to design and implementation. It is loosely based on the downstream use of System Architect (by Popkin Systems) for the application design and development process. This project also contains a simple business rule example that goes with the analysis material.
